Accra is the capital city of the Republic of Ghana, a country located in the Western part of Africa. Ghana spans along the Gulf of Guinea and the Atlantic Ocean, sharing borders with the Ivory Coast in the west, Burkina Faso in the north, Togo in the east, the Gulf of Guinea, and the Atlantic Ocean in the south.

Accra can be found in the southern part of Ghana or on the Atlantic coast of West Africa.

Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum


Also known as the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, was established on 1st July 1992 in dedication to Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah for his excellent campaign to liberate Ghana, then known as the “Gold Coast” from colonial Rule in 1957. Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum is also the last resting place for Ghana’s first president and his Egyptian wife Fathia Nkrumah, it also holds all his remains.


Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park can be located in downtown Accra oppositely to the old Parliament House currently known as the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice(CHRAJ). Opening hours start at exactly 10 am to 5 pm every weekday, opening hours for weekends might differ.


Why Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum

A full statue of the late Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, wearing a Ghanaian-made cloth, in bronze is designed at the exact location where he proclaimed Ghana’s independence, “Ghana Is free Forever”.


 Accra Zoo

It is located in Achimota forest near the Achimota College Cres at Accra, Ghana. The zoo was built in the year 1961 by the First President Of Ghana formally ‘Gold Coast’, Accra Zoo is currently under the management of the Wildlife Division of the Forestry Commission under the Ministry of Lands and Forestry.

The zoo has lots of Animals both domestic and wildlife Animals, such animals include Camel, Spot nosed monkey, Patas monkey, White-naped mangabey, Diana monkey, Rabbit, Ostrich, Emu, Peafowl, African grey parrot, Royal python, Dwarf crocodile and among others.


The Zoo officials require an entry fee which varies depending on your Nationality and age, if you are a Ghanaian you will have to pay 2 cedis for each child in basic school, 4 cedis for each Ghanaian senior high school student, 5 cedis for each Ghanaian tertiary student with ID card and 10 cedis for each Ghanaian adult. Foreigners are also to pay 5 cedis for each non-Ghanaian child up to middle school, 10 cedis for each non-Ghanaian high school student, 10 cedis for each non-Ghanaian tertiary student, and 20 cedis for each non-Ghanaian adult.


Directions and Opening hours


Just a few kilometers from Accra, the zoo is hidden in the Achimota Forest at the very end of a dirt road. Accra Zoo is opened to the public every day from 9: 00 AM to 4: 30 PM(GMT).


 Aburi Botanical Gardens

Aburi Botanical Gardens, also known as Aburi Gardens for short is located in Aburi in the Eastern Region of south Ghana. Though Aburi Gardens isn’t located in the center of Accra, I suggest you might love to spend your leisure period at Aburi hence it is a place where natural resources such as trees, waterfall, animals, and so on.


The garden occupies an area of 64.8 hectares, It was opened in March 1890, established by Governor William Brandford-Griffith and Dr. John Farrell Easmon, a Sierra Leonean medical doctor. Before the final establishment of the Garden, it was already built-in 1875 for Gold Coast government officials, since then it has been part of Ghana’s top resort site for everyone. It is a very quiet resort for anyone with depression or stressed to spend his/her time overcoming their problems, Aburi Gardens has been one of the top excursion sites for schools in Ghana especially schools located in the capital Accra.


Direction and Opening hours

From Accra Centre, a few hours drive to a town called Aburi in the Eastern Region. The Garden officials work every day from Monday to Sunday opening at 8:30 am and close at 5: 00 pm (GMT).
