With significantly lower power requirements, AMD Ryzen 7 and Intel Core I9 5800X3D

The Ryzen 7 5800X3D from AMD is now available for purchase at global retailers. The mature Zen 3 CCD and 64MB of 3D stacked L3 cache (a total of 96MB) produce the fastest gaming processor, surpassing not only the Intel Core i9-12900K but also the $749 i9-12900KS. The final AM4 chip was recently tested by Igor, who works in his lab, and he found it to be the king of efficiency.

When paired with the Radeon RX 6900 XT and slightly more when paired with the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D consumes just 56W of power during 720p gaming workloads. With the same GPUs and 1080p resolution, the average power consumption drops to 51.6W for the first GPU and 57.4W for the second. That is really staggering.

In examination, Intel’s Center i9-12900K draws a normal of 130W and 141W at 1080p and 720p, separately. At the two resolutions, however, the higher binner i9-12900KS used 134W and 143W of power, respectively.

The performance of the Intel Core i9-12900K/KS is rather pitiful. Regardless of drawing over 2.5x more power than the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, the two chips lose to the sole Harmony 3D part across most games. Overall, this means that the Ryzen 7 5800X3D has an average of 0.2 watts per frame, while the Core i9-12900K and 12900KS have a rather embarrassing ratio of 0.5-0.6 water per frame.
